Lenses of Croydon return with another event to help keep photographers across the world feeling connected and inspired.

This week we have the London based photographer, Ed Sykes. He will be sharing some of his work and revealing how his photographic journey has progressed over the years.

Ed studied photography at Nottingham Trent University in the mid-’80s, and by 1990, he completed a post-graduate degree at London College of Printing. He started his career as a freelance photographer working for The Independent. He has had work published in The Guardian, i-D magazine, GQ Style, The Sunday Times Style, The Sunday Telegraph Review and Vogue.

His current work investigates the environment and uses documentary photography as the starting point.

More recently, his work has expanded to challenge this traditional approach using conceptual techniques to question the representation of landscape.

His photographs have been included in exhibitions at the Association of Photographers, Four Corners Gallery, Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, National Portrait Gallery, Photofusion and The Printspace.

A book, The Space Between Us, a portrait of London during the Covid pandemic in 2020, is now available from Ed’s website.

As is customary at the Croydon Photography Forum, we will be holding a prize draw and this week you will have the opportunity to win a copy of Ed’s book.

While any size donation is welcomed, donations of £3 will entitle you to an entry into the evening’s prize draw, and a donation of £5 will give you two prize draw entries and so forth.
